31.05.09Tenishia Feat. Eller Van Buuren ReviewI hadn't attended an open air event for quite some while now so you can actually imagine the sense of awkwardness which takes over when you're expected to give your opinion on a matter which you turn out to be a bit rusty (so to speak) at. Indoor parties bring it on, outdoor parties...we'll just have to gett accustomed to them that's all, and if they all turn out to be the least bit similar to Tenishia's event, I'm quite sure that we at OldSkool will end up getting addicted. I wasn't sure of what to expect out of last Saturday's show to be honest, I wasn't that well acquainted with Tenishia's style and was a bit sceptic at first but, much to my satisfaction, I was about to be very, very wrongly proven!
The crowds dramatically (for want of a better word) increased some 40 minutes into the event, filling out the “Buskett Roadhouse” outdoor area quite impressively in a matter of just a few minutes. Normally I wouldn't comment on this since that on most events we tend to arrive at the scene at times when the main footfall's already there, but at this particular event we had the opportunity of viewing the crowds... shall we say response time to what they were hoping for?
A fantastic warm up by several upcoming Deejays made sure that the crowds were all ready and set for the nights main event. At 1:00am the lights dimmed as the empowering intro began to play, introducing Malta's newly proclaimed “Masters of Trance.” A flash of lights, pyrotechnics and a screaming crowd meant that this international Deejaying duo had finally arrived. Since that most of the crowd knew what to expect from these two, their anticipation turned into excitement as they awaited for the night's featured guest of honour; Eller van Buuren.
The lead guitarist in Bagga Bownz, a Netherlands based rock band, and brother to DJ Mag's number one voted Deejay, Armin van Buuren (as if the surname wasn't enough evidence to this), Eller has definitely lived up to everybody's expectations if not surpassed them. Both myself, Kyle Sammut and my fellow associate, Jurgen Borg, have had the immense pleasure of meeting Eller backstage and I cannot stress on how much of a great guy this artist turned out to be. A talent in his own right and an astonishing bonus to any trance track. Sunlounger's “White Sand” and “Zocalo” were performed amongst others, no finer choice could've been made. Trance along with a well played guitar... my ears couldn't hope for more.
Tenishia, along with Winter Moods' lead singer Ivan Grech launched a new remix of this band's hit and definite trademark; “Marigold,” rock and trance fans should be pleased alike. At the end a great closing was taken care of by Charlie G, who made sure that everybody went back home fully content with what he or she had just listened to.
Tenishia's previous event turned out to be a massive success as well but I am quite pleased to see that their fame just keeps on growing, turning present and hopefully future events into ones even better than those put up before. OldSkool whilst being very sure that their upcoming events should be of great satisfaction, salutes Malta's “Masters of trance” and salutes also Mr. Eller as well, thanking him enormously for both his talent and acquaintance.
